The One-Day Guest Room Refresh

With the summer season on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to get your guest room guest-ready, even if it hasn’t seen much traffic recently. Whether you’re expecting out-of-town family or last-minute weekend visitors (or even escaping a snoring partner), a thoughtful refresh can help make your guest space feel warm and ready to welcome.

And what I love is that it doesn’t take a full redesign. With just a few touches, fresh linens, a charming bedside setup, you can create a space that feels intentional and effortless, a one-day guest room refresh, if you will.

Here are a few ideas you can complete in a single afternoon, plus some finds to make hosting feel as lovely as it looks!

Crisp, Inviting, and Effortless

The quickest way to reset a guest room? Start with the bed. Fresh, breathable linens in soft whites or pale, summery tones instantly lighten the space and signal a thoughtful welcome.

  • Swap in cotton or linen sheets for something airy and seasonal.

  • Add a lightweight duvet, quilt, or textured throw folded at the foot of the bed. It adds softness and gives guests options for comfort.

Top it all off with a fluffy robe, stack of fresh towels, and possibly a pair of house shoes guests can wear. It’s the small touches that make a big difference.

Everything Within Reach

A curated nightstand can instantly make guests feel more at home. It’s all about thoughtfulness. What would you want if you were waking up in someone else’s space?

  • Start with the basics: a carafe of water and glass, a phone charger, and maybe a small notepad and pen. It’s equal parts functional and charming.

  • Corral it all with a beautiful tray; wood, marble, or rattan keeps it feeling tidy and intentional.

  • Soft lighting like a small lamp or wall sconce gives guests control and means they won’t have to fumble with overhead lights at night.

The Small Things They’ll Remember

A few details go a long way in creating a sense of calm and care in your guest room.

  • Tuck a sprig of lavender or other fresh blossoms into a vase on the nightstand or windowsill. It’s simple, pretty, and adds a gentle scent to the room.

  • Lightly scent the space with a candle or diffuser in soft notes like citrus, mint, or classic lavender, fresh without overwhelming.

  • Leave something to browse: a favorite book, a local guide, or a small magazine stack. It gives guests something to do if they wake early (or just want a moment to themselves).

  • I also like to consider my guests’ functional needs; a luggage stand tucked away in the closet with extra coat hangers, a clear space in the closet, and a few drawers, even if just in the nightstand.

Beyond the Bedroom

A few thoughtful touches outside the guest room can also help to welcome your guests.

  • Leave the Wi-Fi info somewhere visible. A pretty card on the nightstand or taped inside a cabinet works perfectly.

  • Set up a simple coffee or tea station, even if it’s just a tray with mugs, a few pods or tea bags, and a kettle.

  • Add a light refresh to the guest bath: fresh towels, a restocked soap pump, maybe a small plant or candle to make it feel considered.

None of these details need to be elaborate, but when you layer them with the other ideas, they create a guest space that feels luxurious and relaxed.
